Yacht club Praha (the YCP) was founded at the beginning of the 1990s by the famous adrenaline sports’ pioneer Jiri Jelinek, who was also a very passionate sailor. This outdoor guru had built by him self his first sailboat named Shinook, which in the summer 1990 he brought to the Adriatic sea and established the Yacht club Praha.
Yacht club Praha as the first Czech charter company had started organizing sail cruises, charter of sailboats and skipper courses. Jirka Jelinek had always loved Adriatic and it had became his second home. As the time passed the company had grown and had became very professional – had bought new sailboats, which it renews and modernizes every few years, organizes skipper courses and skipper trainings, often publishes in yachting magazines, and had founded prestigious Majova regatta – sailing regatta in the Kornati area and Murter sea.
Unfortunately Jirka Jelinek left us in January 2016. Even in his 76 years of age he was still a very active man.
In the last few years had with Jiri closely cooperated his grandson Matej Novak, who worked as a skipper, had led the skipper courses and skipper trainings, and had participated on functioning of the YCP. After Jiri had passed away Matej overtook managing of the company.
Matej had taken after Jirka his adventurous character, love for the nature and sailing. Since the childhood had Matej spent big portion of summer holidays on grandpa’s sailboats and he enjoys his love for the water and wind also at windsurf.
The YCP team have therefore managed to successfully continue in the heritage of Jirka Jelinek. The team now runs and modernizes a fleet of five sailboats in its home marina Mandalina in beautiful city of Šibenik.
